A Level Geography
A Level Geography explores the relationships between people, places and the environment, helping students understand some of the world’s most pressing challenges, from climate change and globalisation to urban growth and resource management. It is an ideal subject for students who enjoy discussion, analysis and fieldwork, and who want to develop a deeper understanding of how physical and human processes shape the world around us. Through the study of a wide range of contemporary issues, students develop valuable skills in research, data analysis, critical thinking and decision-making.
Course components:
- Physical Geography: Explore topics such as water and carbon cycles, coastal or glacial landscapes, and natural hazards including earthquakes, volcanic activity and storms.
- Human Geography: Study global systems and governance, changing places, and issues relating to population, urban environments and economic development.
- Fieldwork Investigation: Design and carry out your own independent investigation, collecting and analysing data before producing a written report based on a geographical question of your choice.
This A Level builds valuable skills in data analysis, research and critical thinking, and is highly regarded for university courses and careers in environmental science, urban planning, sustainability, international development and geospatial technologies.
Assessment
Assessment is through written examinations and an independent fieldwork investigation, allowing students to demonstrate their geographical knowledge, analytical skills and ability to undertake independent research.
