A Level Physics

A Level Physics is a challenging and rewarding course that develops students’ understanding of the fundamental principles that govern the world around us. Combining theoretical study with practical investigation, students explore topics ranging from forces, motion and electricity to astrophysics, medical physics and particle physics. The course develops strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills, making it excellent preparation for Higher Education and careers in engineering, physics, medicine, computing and other STEM-related fields. Physics is particularly valuable for students studying engineering pathways, as it underpins many of the concepts encountered in university-level engineering and technical careers.

Topics covered include:

  • Development of practical skills in physics
  • Foundations of physics
  • Forces and motion
  • Electrons, waves and photons
  • Newtonian physics and astrophysics
  • Particles and medical physics

Assessment

Assessment is through three written examinations and a practical endorsement, allowing students to demonstrate both their theoretical understanding and practical skills.
